In the blink of an eye, nine months is here and gone. Now with three gorgeous daughters (and a stud of a little man) on the scene, the question is, “Where do we go from here, Daddy?” As a father, I hold the unique responsibility of shepherding my children toward a brighter future than the one the world wants them to have, but how do I make that happen?

Here are a few things my children are going to need from daddy if they’re going to live the life God has planned for them…

Provision

The most important thing I can give to my children is their sense of self-worth. While the enemy seeks to belittle them, I must relentlessly build them up. They need to be reminded daily of how precious they are in the eyes of their parents and the eyes of their Creator.

Protection

As they grow, the draw of worldly things will only grow stronger. One day, they’ll have the wisdom necessary to take every thought captive and guard their own hearts. Until then, it is my duty to protect my babies from the soul-pollution and corruption running rampant in our culture.

Direction

As I provide for and protect my little ones, it is also my responsibility to ensure they get where they need to be. Of course, doing this means I need to be heading in the right direction myself! I will never lead any of my children to intimacy with a God whom I only know superficially.

There is no doubt the enemy will attempt, daily, to use the world to woo my children in his direction, but with God’s help, and claiming God’s promises, I’ll inch them closer to the Good Shepherd day by day.

But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children— with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts. Ps. 113:17-18
